Good bye, Africa!

Sixth and final stage of the expedition of the General Promoter with and for the Rosary: South Africa, where he stayed from December 27 to 31. He chose the Emaphethelweni Priory - which name in Zulu means "at the frontiers" - in the city of Pietermaritzburg because that is where the Promoter of the Rosary of the general Vicariate, bro. Damazio Mubelu Ngoma, is assigned.

The welcome of the brothers has been very fraternal in a very special atmosphere, since the community had been attacked by armed men a few days before... and they came back!

On December 28, just after Sunday Mass, a meeting was held with some brothers of the community and lay people. Most of these people are graduate students – some brothers are chaplains of the university – and most of them are French speaking students who came to study to South Africa.

Then we went to visit two communities of Dominican Sisters. On December 29, we visited the sister at the Villas on the heights of Pietermaritzburg. The next day, the Sisters of Montebello welcomed us in Isigodini, in a very different area, far from richer zones. Even though apartheid was officially abolished, the South African society is still very violent and remains highly compartmentalized. People still hide behind high fences.

Then I had to leave South Africa to fly back to Europe, keeping in my mind so many images, encounters and exchanges! Good bye, Africa!

Is it goodbye forever? I don’t think so! The Rosary will be especially honored in Africa during the Jubilee of the Dominican Order in 2016. Indeed, the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro in Côte d'Ivoire, was chosen to be the center of the world of the Rosary, on October 7, 2016, for a worldwide prayer for peace in our Order and beyond!

We will meet there!
Why not?
If Our Lady wants it!!
