Last stage: Iraq!

The General Promoter of the Rosary’s long expedition in October and November 2015 reaches its end: here is the final stage, Erbil, in northern Iraq.

This expanding Iraqi Kurdistan town welcomes numerous Christian refugees. The Rosary has come to meet our Dominican brothers and sisters here who have lost everything.

This is not the first article to appear on this site as we have already put two on line: one on the opening of the Jubilee of the foundation of the Order of Preachers and the other on the camps.

But it would be unfair to only report this painful reality. We have seen the courage with which Christians face up to this difficult and precarious situation.

And so the sisters of Saint Catherine of Sienna are in the front line. They ensure the schooling of a large number of children in several places spread out in houses or schools.

The Dominican brothers are also present for teaching or support work. They continue the work undertaken before the exodus.

So brother Najeeb, who has saved so many ancient manuscripts, notably in Syriac, divides his time between Erbil and conferences throughout the world to make known this ancient centuries-old culture in danger and so little known.

In spite of everything, life goes on.

This is how the children can be given a future. Hope, stronger than everything, which shows this power of life in adversity.

How can one forget these expressions, these meetings?

We have a duty to help these Christians, materially, certainly, but also through our prayers.

Discover or rediscover the force of prayer and let’s make a little space for them in our Rosary!
