Saint Dominic Priory – Quito
In this celebratory year of the eight hundred years of the foundation of the Order of Preachers, having been to Myanmar and Pakistan, the Promoter of the Rosary headed to South America. What a change of scenery!
He stayed from the 5 to 13 August in this little country where the Church and the Order are so go-ahead. There were many meetings with the brothers in Quito as well as in Ambato and Baños de Agua Santa. In fact thanks to the calendar there was a lovely celebration of the feast of St Dominic, firstly with our sisters, the nuns of Ibarra, for Mass, then at the Saint Dominic convent, in the historic centre of Quito, for the meal.

Meetings were also organised with the other members of the Dominican family: apostolic and lay sisters, not forgetting the nuns. The stop off at Baños de Agua Santa even enabled us to prepare a programme for the brothers’ Sanctuary radio station.
The same welcome and fervour everywhere!

Valle de los Chillos
We would particularly mention the nuns. Visits were organised to three different monasteries: the one in the centre of Quito, those of Ibarra and the Valle de los Chillos.
At Ibarra, the sisters had taken advantage of the feast day of Our Father Saint Dominic to invite young people in order to introduce them to the Dominican spirituality and – who knows? – inspire vocations! Two student brothers, Jorge and César, had made the trip to help them.
Indeed it was they who gave freely of their time to ensure that the trip was a success. And they are most warmly thanked here.
