On the shores of Lake Tanganyika

The choir at the mass in English in Bujumbura
December 7, 2014

Second stop of the African expedition for the Rosary: Burundi. I stayed there from December 6 to 12. I mostly remained in Bujumbura, the capital, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.

The Socius of the Master of the Order for Africa, Fr. Gabriel Samba, had strongly advised me to celebrate a Sunday mass with the brothers, in order to see the wonderful work they do in their parish. And I was not disappointed! The brothers of Saint Dominic’s House celebrate every Sunday a mass in English and one in French. Both are animated by a remarkable choir that supports the fervor of all. It is this fervor that I found in the offices that we celebrated together as well as in the meetings on the Rosary with the Dominican laity.

The doors – and the waves! – of Radio Maria Burundi have been opened for us. It has been possible to organize two radio broadcasts on Our Lady and the Rosary, on December 10 and 11. These radio broadcasts have been a good opportunity to teach on the Rosary and to live fruitful exchanges as numerous listeners could intervene, react and ask questions.

We left Lake Tanganyika and took the road towards the North to reach Rwanda. With Fr. Sixbert Hategekimana, the Provincial Vicar of the Vicariate of Rwanda and Burundi, we stopped 24 hours in Rweza at the nuns’ monastery. There a meeting was held with the community and another one with the parish priest and some lay people.

Thank you to the brothers, sisters and lay people for this beautiful welcome and the fervor we shared!
